Our unwavering ambition is for Northeastern to become one of world’s great universities.

To accomplish this, we seek to leverage the achievements of our institutes and departments and empower the university to create dynamic transdisciplinary communities focused on complex intellectual domains and pressing social issues. For now, we are calling these university clusters. We will create clusters where, with focused investment in faculty, staff, and facilities, Northeastern could plausibly attain a leading research position in 3-5 years. Clusters will:
  • generally focus on addressing complex social, environmental, technological, and economic problems requiring multidisciplinary expertise and deep transdisciplinary collaboration;
  • address timely industrial, economic, and policy needs in cooperation with employer partners;
  • foster a culture of entrepreneurship, social responsibility and engagement; and
  • build an experiential educational ecosystem that spans all program levels and equips students with opportunities to train, serve, and lead in a variety of settings.

Your charge is to develop our university cluster strategy addressing issues such as the cluster selection process, relationships with colleges and institutes, cluster lifecycle, cluster administration, and clusters as a means to address diversity and inclusion.
